Don't Run, Walk!

Put on those comfortable walking shoes and head out on the town in one of the three offerings in the Portland Walk About Series through Portland Community College on Sundays, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., on May 16, May 30 and June 13.
On Sunday, May 16, join course guide Peter Chausse on Exploring Downtown Portland’s Historic Sites, where he will take walkers through the Yamhill and Old Town historic districts in Portland to examine hidden art and architecture in the area. Walkers should meet at the Portland Oregon Visitors Association on the corner of S.W. Salmon and Naito Parkway.
On May 30, Chausse will take his class through the newer, more modern areas of Portland in Portland’s The Central City: New Town and South Park Blocks. Explore the best of downtown Portland’s modern art and architecture, such as the federal courthouse and justice center, as well as the fountains and the urban parks of the South Auditorium district. Walkers should meet at the Portland Oregon Visitors Association on the corner of S.W. Salmon and Naito Parkway.
In the final installment this spring, check out Portland’s Bridges and Waterfront on June 13. Walk along both banks of the Willamette River and cross four Portland bridges on foot.
Walkers will get a chance to view a variety of impressive art as they visit the Japanese-American Historical Plaza, the Story Garden and the Rose Quarter. Students should meet at the Skidmore Fountain at S.W. Naito and Ankeny.
