Accessibility Tips from AEDR

For Instructors creating content in Kahoot!

A team of Assistive Technology (AT) users from Accessible Education and Disability Resources (AEDR) reviewed Kahoot! and provided the following guidance to help make your Kahoots more accessible.

To ensure your Kahoot activities are accessible, follow these essential steps:

Time
  • Set multiple-choice and true/false questions to a minimum of 30 seconds.
  • Set typed-input (short-answer) questions to 45 seconds to one minute.
  • The host must verbally announce the last 5 or 10 seconds of the timer.
Question Types
  • Avoid using questions that require drag-and-drop or sliders.
  • Do not use “puzzle questions,” as they are inaccessible with TalkBack.
Host Actions & Setup
  • Ensure the host activates the “Show answers on devices” toggle so that answer options are correctly labeled and readable by all assistive technology.
  • The host should read the questions and all answer choices aloud.
