Survey of Entering Students (SENSE)
Overview
In fall 2024, 324 new to PCC students (6.7% of those surveyed) completed the Survey of Entering Student Engagement (SENSE). SENSE is a nationally-benchmarked instrument that asks new students about their academic support, student services, and instructional experiences during their first three weeks of college.
The SENSE provided Executive Summary of Results groups select survey items into six nationally benchmarked categories. PCC’s standardized benchmark scores were at or above average in High Expectations and Aspirations, Engaged Learning, and Academic and Social Support Network. However, the college’s benchmark scores were below average in Early Connections, Effective Track to College Readiness, and Clear Academic Plan and Pathway with the latter receiving the lowest score. For comprehensive details see Questions by Benchmark.
The SENSE Frequency Report lists all survey items with response counts. However, it is important to note that survey respondents differed from nonrespondents in several characteristics, which may limit how accurately the results reflect the overall new student population. PCC faculty, staff and administrators are invited to contact the Office of Institutional Effectiveness for interpretation assistance and for additional information.
