This was a focus on atmospheric perspective, so I wanted to make the depicted smoke feel as palpable as possible while still conveying depth and distance. It was based off a photo my fisherman father took at 10 AM from his boat passing under the Golden Gate bridge, during the rampant California fires of 2020. Aside from the density of the smoke, I also wanted to capture the urgency in the colors of the image - apocalyptic reds and yellows surrounding the light blue safety vessel that is the boat.
