I was attracted to the vintage photo on the top part of the diptych because of its interesting diagonals, both literal and implied by the movement of the figures, and the contrast between the bright red and green colors of the boy's outfit and the rest of the image. With this diptych I wanted to create a feeling of there being a mysterious world beneath the ice, like a lush, prehistoric forest trapped in time. In addition, compositional elements like the cracks in the ice and the vines in the image below create eye flow that leads us to the spider web almost directly beneath the boy in red.
