This assignment was to make a portrait of something (the butterfly) and layer it over an idea from an unrelated photo with an interesting structure for a background. A large group of tall poppies had volunteered to grow in a raised bed next to the street. I was interested in the vertical shape of their stems.

Mid-morning sunlight is striking the front of a blue glass vase with bunch of orange-pink carnations on a stainless steel counter set in front of a window with an indigo frame.

There is a view across the street of a corner and a bit of a crosswalk with the sidewalk hidden by a thick mass of blue iris and yellow-orange poppies; above them the plum trees have already dropped their blossoms and have green-bronze leaves moving in the breeze.
