Jessica Allison-Bourne | “Yes! on 109”

This is a black and white relief print. There is a woman's face with her eyes closed and a third eye on her forehead that is open. Above her head is a representation of firing synapses, which appear like lightening. Her hair is long and black with white highlights, and it becomes the background of the image. Below her face are Psilocybin mushrooms growing up from behind a lotus flower. Under the flower, text reads "Yes! on 109".

In this piece, I experimented with different carving techniques to create an interesting play between the positive and negative space of the image. In "Yes! on 109", I'm referring to my support of Oregon Measure 109, Psilocybin Mushroom Services Program Initiative (2020).

In the first image, a loose rendering of an industrial structure appears, with a small hint of foliage beginning to infringe upon it from the right; the same structure appears again in the second image, this time faded, with increasing quantities of foliage overtaking it.
