Giana Lawson | “Fuseli Rendition”

Having been assigned to create an abstracted version of a pre-twentieth century artwork, I've always been enamored with Henry Fuseli's 1781 oil painting "The Nightmare". I decided to use acrylic paint's bold colors to my advantage by contrasting gray shades with red and purple highlights. The apparent "draining" of color from the woman - magenta melting from her pallid complexion through her gown - is meant to represent the fear I interpret anyone would feel with that creature perched upon their sternum.
