When I Moved to Portland
Written by: Jutamas Kaeophiathao
When I moved to Portland, I knew that my adventurous life would begin again. I lived in Wisconsin with my husband’s family before. I was very comfortable there, but we wanted to move because we wanted privacy and to try to live in a new state. When we came to Portland, we noticed it had a lot of trees and many things to do. There are many parks, forests, mountains, and beautifully painted buildings, but Portland also has many homeless people downtown. Portland also has many buses and trains. It’s convenient to go almost anywhere except in the winter when it snows and everything closes. Portland has a lot of rain, but people are comfortable in the wet weather. In summer, you can enjoy many outdoor activities. You can see the changing colors of the trees in the fall. Our favorite place to take a walk in Portland is the Japanese Garden. Also, I have tried many things. I take the bus and train by myself. Before coming to Portland, I had never done this before in America. I started to learn English with the ESOL program at PCC and didn’t know anyone, but now I have nice friends and a good teacher. Everything is great. Thank you all for supporting me. I love it here.
