Tragedy in Turkiye
Written by: Ozlem Mutlu
heartHi Everyone, I’m Ozlem. I’m from Turkiye. I’m an ESOL student, and I’m also working at PCC. As all of you might know, people in the southeast region of Turkiye have been hit by two major earthquakes that have impacted 10 cities, two major shocks with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6, and many aftershocks. As of now, over 43,000 people have lost their lives, over 6,000 buildings collapsed, and 198,000 buildings suffered minor or moderate damage; many children lost their families, and many families lost their children. This image touched me deeply. A father holds the hand of a 14 year old girl who was crushed by the building after the earthquake struck. He sat with her all night through the cold, knowing she had passed away. If you want to help those people, please consider donating. These are trustworthy organizations where you can make donations.
Also, I would like to announce some happy news. This man below rescued the really cute cat from under the rubble and adopted it. He named it Enkaz, which means “rubble” in Turkish. May they have a happy life together. Thank you.
