Course Description

Covers the paralegal's role in large-budget, deeply staffed litigation in which a range of lawyers and paralegals staff a case. Explores how to manage and track documents, assemble and organize documents to assist lawyers preparing for depositions and trial, and manage trial technology. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Create, organize and manage large case files and documents.
  2. Manage case discovery productions.
  3. Understand how to implement in-depth discovery processes as a paralegal.

Course Activities and Design

Classroom lecture and discussion, small group homework, hands on experience in- and out-of-class.

Practical homework, in-class practical assignments, quizzes and exams.

Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)

Focus will be on the paralegal's role in large case management, a critical role where the paralegal is often the keeper of the file.  Specific roles of paralegals will be explored and developed in real life situation to familiarize students with specific tasks expected of them on deep-bench teams.
