Course Description

Covers introductory principles and procedures in real and personal property law including possessory interests, estates, deeds, contracts, servitudes, leases, title issues and real estate transactions. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

An elective satisfying the requirements of either a Legal Assistant Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science degree.
 

Intended Outcomes for the course

Course Activities and Design

Lecture and discussion of the topic assigned each week.  Students are invited and expected to participate in discussions related to the topics assigned and should be prepared to respond to the instructor's questions.  Students will be required to submit thoughtful, written
questions on that week's topic, as their assignment, for each class.
 

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Students' grades will be based primarily on a mid-term and final exam (open book), and their understanding of course material as demonstrated by their written submissions and classroom discussion.
 

Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)

Recognize/identify/understand how differing interests in personal and real property are created, what rights the holder of said
 interests has vis a vis others, and how interests can be transferred.
*    Understand how property interests may be impacted by other sort of law, such as the doctrines of nuisance and landlord/tenant
     statutes.
