Course Description

Allows student to independently continue progress from beginning age-related walking/fitness levels through individual walking program and active participation in intermediate Volkswalking activities. Due to nature of course, requires weekly walking log reports via current email account. Recommend: Beginning Volkswalking or average fitness level. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Student provides appropriate sport clothing for activity. Sport shoes designed for walking are required.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Improve physical conditioning
  • Improve cardiovascular conditioning
  • Develop skills/techniques for age-related lifelong walking/fitness plan
  • Recognize/develop skills for holistic health
  • Maintain walking/fitness log
  • Develop/apply principles, terminology and techniques for overall conditioning
  • Develop method for walk pacing/timing
  • Develop further appreciation of Volkswalking through participation in event opportunities

Course Activities and Design

  • Practice warm-ups, cool-downs
  • Apply components of fitness to intermediate levels
  • Apply present physical condition to appropriate walking levels
  • Alter routine for special weather and physical conditions
  • Select appropriate level Volkswalking events
  • Maintain walking/fitness log
