Course Description

Introduces the concepts of industrial health and safety regulations, accident causation, and job related safety issues. Requires completion of a Red Cross First Aid course at additional expense to the student. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students will be able to:

  1. Understand concepts of federally mandated safety regulations
  2. Identify issues related to accident causation
  3. Understand business safety issues relating to:

  • People

  • Management

  • Hazard Identification

  • Hazard Control

  • Material Handling

  • Machinery Safeguarding
  • Fire Prevention and Protection
  • Industrial Hygiene
  • Considerations of Product Safety and Liability
  • Requirements of OSHA

Show evidence of training in first aid by completing a Red Cross First Aid course and acquiring a certification.

Course Activities and Design

 
MCH 101 - Occupational Safety & Health will be presented by means of textbook study and research activities. Students will also complete a Red Cross First Aid training course and earn a completion certificate from same.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Students will demonstrate knowledge attainment by completing and passing written testing from the assigned chapters in the text.  Student will also complete a Red Cross First Aid training course and earn a completion certificate from same.
