Course Description
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion students should be able to:
Be prepared to establish a freelance interpreting business
Accept interpreting assignments appropriately as an independent contractor
Use business and job-finding skills to advance professional goals
Use networking contacts to gain employment and develop business and professional relationships
Take the first steps in a plan toward gaining national certification and/or other qualifications such as passing the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment according to state standards
Engage with and contribute to local professional organizations Oregon and/or Washington Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf
Course Activities and Design
This course will consist of lecture, discussion, videotapes, guest speakers, and hands-on application of techniques.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Formal examinations or quizzes, a written business plan, a portfolio, and a research paper.
