Course Description

Focuses on practicing and analyzing intermediate-level simultaneous interpretations from ASL to English and from English to ASL.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Produce meaning-based simultaneous interpretations of a given source message.

  2. Apply the knowledge, skill, and abilities learned in first year courses.

  3. Engage in community events and professional development activities.

  4. Complete an individual skill development plan.

Course Activities and Design

This course will include simultaneous interpreting, communities of practice, and engagement in community events and professional development activities. 

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Assessment strategies include formal evaluations of recorded interpretations, self-analysis, and completion of professional development or community hours. 

Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)

Includes all or most of the following:

  • Application of simultaneous interpreting skills learned in first year courses
  • Achieving dynamic equivalence of main and supporting points in an interpretation
  • Self-analysis of interpreting work
  • Submitting an individual development plan
