Course Description

Includes the application of ICD-9-CM/PCS and ICD-10-CM/PCS skills and knowledge acquired in HIM 273. Uses case-summary coding exercises for enhanced learning.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  1. Accurately follow ICD-9-CM/PCS and ICD-10-CM/PCS coding convention, licensure and accrediting rules.
  2. Conduct analysis to assure that documentation in the health record supports the diagnosis and reflects the progress, clinical findings and discharge status.
  3. Audit patient health records to confirm accuracy of code assignment.
