Course Description

Expands and perfects skills learned in second year French. Emphasizes speaking and writing, but students also practice listening and reading. Recommended: Successful completion of second year French at the college level or instructor permission. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

FR 290A is designed to provide advanced students of French with the opportunity to increase their skills, particularly those of speaking and writing. The course is offered for three transfer credit hours and counts in the distribution requirements for the AA degree and as a general education requirement for other associate degrees.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Speaking and writing skills will be extended, improved, and perfected beyond the level of second year French through student practice. Review of grammar points will be incorporated as needed by the class, however the focus will not be grammar but the consolidation and perfection of the production skills of speaking and writing. French will be used at all times.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

  1. Student attendance and participation will be appraised to determine improvement in student's ability to communicate effectively in French
  2. Contextual written assignments (in or outside of class) to assess reading, writing, cultural and aural competencies
  3. Individual and/or group presentations which may contain audio or visual components

Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)

THEMES, CONCEPTS AND ISSUES
Oral discussion and writing practice based on general topics of con- temporary interest. Audio-visual materials and readings will be used to provide a framework for discussion and writing assignments.
