Course Description

Behavior terminology will be defined and applied. Students will demonstrate and practice baselining, setting up a program, reinforcing, modeling, shaping, chaining, monitoring and graphing data. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

 Students will:
 

  • Define and use behavior terms.
  • Describe behavior objectively.
  • Identify behavior management techniques.
  • Describe and practice diagnostic procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use reason, decision making, and complex problem solving skills.

Course Activities and Design

Students will:
 

  • Create a safe environment in the classroom.
  • Write a behavioral change program.
  • Implement a behavioral change program.
  • Decrease unwanted behavior.
  • Increase desired behavior.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Student progress will be evaluated and criteria for assigning a course grade by the following tool: present an original project
demonstrating a change in behavior using concepts taught in class.

Professional competence: Graduates of Portland Community College should demonstrate mastery in a discipline of profession at a level appropriate to program and transfer requirements through the application of concepts, skills, processes, and technology in the performance of authentic tasks that enhance community involvement and employability.
Self-reflection: Graduates of Portland Community College should be self-appraising in applying the knowledge and skills they have learned, examining and evaluating personal beliefs and comparing them with the beliefs of others.
