Course Description

Covers history, current programs and practices, and future issues of early childhood education (ECE). Includes professionalism, historic and current issues, types of programs for young children, parent interaction, job opportunities, ethical/legal issues and community resources. Covers the development of a professional philosophy. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Prepare a Professional Folio highlighting accomplishments, memberships, personal philosophies, ethics, and advocacy tied to the field of early childhood education.
  2. Explore career employment opportunities in the field of early childhood education.
  3. Review and practice advocacy strategies.
  4. Resolve ethical dilemmas using the NAEYC Code of Ethics.
