Course Description
Covers development of intermediate level skills to work with children ages birth - 5 years old in a group setting. Includes the use of developmentally appropriate methods to support guidance and conflict resolution, schedule and routine planning, fundamental curriculum development, and environmental modification. Recommended: ECE 262. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Create healthy, culturally relevant, and developmentally appropriate learning environments for young children using knowledge of child development.
- Develop appropriate goals, curriculum, and teaching strategies for young children using an understanding of the goals, benefits, and uses of assessment.
- Develop positive relationships and supportive interactions with young children in an early childhood environment.
- Reflect on personal caregiving and teaching practices in order to promote positive outcomes for each child.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
- Participate in Mid-term and Final conferences with the mentoring team (Supervising Faculty and Mentor Lead Classroom Teacher) to review progress.
- Assessed on classroom practices by Mentor Teachers and Supervising Faculty throughout the term.
