Course Description
Provides foundational knowledge and technologies needed to detect, investigate, and prevent computer-related crimes. Introduces current trends centered on exploiting individuals as well as private and government institutions. Examines laws and dynamics of prosecuting cybercrime. Recommended: WR 115. Audit available.
Addendum to Course Description
Introduces methods used by cybercriminals to commit crimes such as phishing, malware and ransomware attacks. Provides an overview of legal and ethical issues.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:
1. Identify common issues and trends related to cybercrime investigations.
2. Identify technologies to fight and mitigate computer-related crimes.
3. Discuss laws and constitutional issues related to cybercrime prosecutions.
