Course Description
Addendum to Course Description
Student participating in this course will study the history of corrections and treatment modalities; while learning about the role of the corrections components within the criminal justice system. The 'goals of corrections' and the use of alternatives to incarceration will be included as the student applies these criteria to the concept of successfully reintegrating the offender back into the community. The student will achieve sensitivity for special correctional clients, including those with ADHD, mental health, geriatric, and other needs.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
- Assess inmate needs, including those with mental health and geriatric concerns.
- Describe tools and approaches used in the correctional environment, including diversion, correctional goals, presentence reports, and treatment programs.
- Assist offenders with building skills to successfully reintegrate into society.

Outcome Assessment Strategies
