Course Description
Provides an immersion into transportation related career technical program classrooms, shops, and labs to learn basic skills and to participate in hands-on activities of these industries. Course is team taught by content experts in all CTE programs represented.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students will be able to:
- Follow general safety practices in each represented career technical program.
- Apply basic field knowledge to complete project/task related to represented programs.
- Use basic introductory knowledge and skills to help make informed career decisions in the transportation industry.
Course Activities and Design
Auto Collision Repair Technology
- get an overview of the Collision Repair Industry as a career choice
- cover general safety instructions
- create dents in a vehicle panel
- learn grinding and roughing out skills necessary to repair the dents
- apply and sand body filler
- learn about the paint refinish process
- practice painting using our 3-D virtual paint system
Aviation Science
- Introduction to pilot duties and how airplanes fly
- Hangar - Airplane Sit-in and Controls
- PIC concepts
- Typical “day in the life” description / videos
- CRM concepts
- Crew communication exercise (hands-on / interactive)
- VFR Flight Planning (all hands on)
- Weight and Balance
- Aircraft performance
Welding

Safety in the weld shop.

Introduction to the Oxy-Fuel cutting system.

Introduction to Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW).

Weld up a small project using the GMAW welding process.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
- Attend all laboratory sessions
- Complete laboratory worksheets and laboratory projects
- Demonstrate compliance with safety policies at all times
