Course Description

Provides advanced knowledge and skills for addiction counseling. Explores strategies and techniques for building rapport, fostering trust, and promoting positive outcomes in the context of addiction counseling. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Analyze effective counseling skills through use of self-evaluations. 

  2. Interpret clinician and client behaviors to implement effective treatment interventions.

  3. Articulate and apply key elements of evidence-based practice models in the areas of counselor/client relationship.

  4. Apply a wide range of skills when working with clients in various phases of recovery. 

  5. Measure therapeutic functioning and empathy through use of measurement tools.
