Prerequisite courses

Complete by the end of summer term with a C, P, or better.

  • WR 121 English Composition
  • MP 111 Medical Terminology
  • MTH 58 Math Literacy, or MTH 65 Introductory Algebra – 2nd term (or higher) or MTH 65 competency exam (through the testing center)
  • CIS 120 Digital Literacy Skills or self-assessment challenge exam (contact healthca@pcc.edu for exam)
  • CIS 121 Information Systems and Programming or BA 131 Intro to Business Technology or BA 205 Business Communication

Additional program requirements

You can take these prior to program admission.

  • BI 121 Intro to Human A & P (replaces HIM 128)
  • BI 122 Intro to Human A & P (replaces HIM 129)
  • HIM 182 Healthcare Delivery Systems
  • ES 101 or SOC 213 – 4 credit class
  • Arts and Letters General Education
  • Science, Math or Computer General Education (not needed if you choose CIS 121)
  • Any one General Education class from Social Science, Arts and Letters or Science, Math, Computer
  • CIS 125D Database Application Dev I or BA 216A Data Analytics with Excel

Students with prior education, certifications, or work experience

Students who have attended him or him related college programs within the past 5 years may have accredited and non-accredited “career technical” coursework accepted by PCC’s HIM program. Interested students should email transcripts to healthca@pcc.edu. Final approval by the HIM program director and may not exceed 24 credits.

Students who have worked in the HIM or HIM-related fields may challenge certain HIM program courses through credit by examination for a fee. Interested students should email their resume to healthca@pcc.edu. Final approval by the HIM program director.

Students with coding or other HIM-related certifications may have certain HIM program courses waived through credit for prior learning. Interested students should email their resume to healthca@pcc.edu. Final approval by the HIM program director.
