How to apply to be a training agent

Thank you for your interest in becoming a registered Training Agent!

As a registered Training Agent you are making a strong commitment to worker training, safety, and employee retention. Apprenticeship has proven long-term cost savings for employers and allows for a consistent pipeline of skilled workers.

Ready to get registered? Before you begin your application be sure you can answer yes to all of the questions on the preparation checklist. Let us know how we can help as you think about the preparation checklist and whether a registered apprenticeship is right for your company.

Preparation checklist

  • Have I looked at the work processes detailed in the program standard and confirmed that my company can provide all the necessary on-the-job training hours for apprentices in all required categories?
  • Do I have enough employees that are qualified to serve as journey workers?
  • Do I have employees that are interested in applying to an apprenticeship program?
  • Do I understand the timeline of apprenticeship and how related training at PCC will be scheduled for my apprentices?
  • Have I established an internal apprentice selection process that prioritizes EEOC guidelines and equitable opportunity?
  • Have I read the information below and familiarized myself with the application process and requirements?

Prospective training agents apply online using a software program called TradeSchool. The time it will take for you to formally become a registered training agent will depend on how quickly you can complete your application and when your Committee is next scheduled to meet. Because the application requires uploading a number of documents and information from a variety of sources, it is very typical for the application process to take several sessions. However, it can be completed more quickly and you will find the application easier to navigate if you familiarize yourself with the process and gather some materials ahead of time.

The first step is to create a TradeSchool user account. TradeSchool is the software the PCC-partner JATCs uses to administer their apprenticeship programs. Just click the link below ad then click to create an account. Once you have an account you will log into TradeSchool, choose “Applications” and then choose the application that describes your company. Be sure you are applying as a training agent and not an apprentice!

The application will ask you to upload the following documents which are provided as part of the application process:

  • Registration form for Oregon Labor and Industries
  • Documentation of eligibility for each journey worker
  • Administrative fee agreement

As part of your application, you will also be asked to provide information about your facility and the work performed, a current hourly wage for an entry-level journey worker, and contact information. Finally, you will be asked to acknowledge receipt of the committee Standard and Policy as well as your agreement to adhere to specific training agent obligations of participation.

We look forward to working with you and your new apprentices!

All Training Agent and Apprentice Application paperwork must be submitted 10 business days before the Committee meeting at which you are asking to be considered. Check the Committee meeting schedules.
