Social Security Number Disclosure

Upon admission, all students attending PCC will be assigned a unique and randomly generated identification number. This permanently assigned identification number is directly connected with the student’s academic records and used by our students to access their own confidential enrollment and registration records.

PCC will request Social Security Numbers (SSN) at the time of application. The Social Security Number will not be used as the student ID number but will be provided to entities requiring Social Security Number, including but not limited to the federal government for financial aid and Tax Relief Act (1997) reporting, Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Oregon Community College Unified Reporting System (OCCURS), and as required by court order in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

Although a student’s SSN is not required for admission, failure to provide it may prevent PCC from matching a student’s application with transcripts, test scores, and other materials. Students who choose not to provide their Social Security number will be ineligible for financial aid and deferred payment, and may be ineligible for other financial arrangements. PCC will also be unable to provide enrollment verification reports and other automated verification functions. The privacy and confidentiality of student records are protected by Federal and State law. PCC will not disclose an SSN without the student’s consent for any other purposes except as allowed by law.

Social Security Number Disclosure

Pursuant to ORS 351.070 and 351.085, PCC may ask you to provide your Social Security Number. Your Social Security number may be used in developing, validating, or administering predictive tests and assessments; administering student aid programs; improving instruction; internal identification of students; collection of student debts; or comparing student educational experiences with subsequent workforce experiences. Social Security numbers will also be provided by the college to the Oregon Community College Unified Reporting System (OCCURS) to meet state and federal reporting requirements. When conducting studies, PCC will disclose a student’s SSN only in a manner that does not permit personal identification of the student by individuals other than representatives of PCC. Providing your social security is voluntary. If you choose to provide it, it means you consent to allow us to use the number in the manner described. If you chose not to do so, you will not be denied any right, benefit, or privilege provided by law. You may revoke your consent for the use of the Social Security number at any time by writing to the PCC Student Records Office, PO Box 19000, Portland, OR 97280-0990.
