During the test

  • Read all instructions carefully and mark (circle, underline, highlight) key points in the question.
  • Do what you know first and then come back to any questions you’re unsure of.
  • Trust yourself! Do not change the answer to a question unless you found the correct answer in the test or remembered a key piece of information.
  • Breathe. If you find yourself getting stressed or anxious, pause for a second and take a deep breath. If the instructor allows it, take breaks for a drink of water or bathroom break. You can also practice a grounding technique such as focusing on an object in the room and mentally describing it’s color, texture, and any other details you notice.

Tips for test anxiety

  • Arrive early for the test to get comfortable and relax beforehand.
  • Sit up straight. This can trick your mind into being more confident!
  • Focus on the test. If you find your mind getting off task, take 3 deep breaths to recenter your focus.
