Job Summary
The Multimedia Producer & Strategist is a highly autonomous and technically skilled role responsible for leading the integration, quality assurance, and infrastructure strategy of Portland Community College’s multimedia systems. This position serves as the bridge between communications strategy and technical architecture across digital platforms, and PCC’s broadcast and media environments .
The role combines strategic systems thinking with deep production and engineering expertise to ensure seamless delivery, accessibility, and performance of multimedia assets. The Multimedia Producer and Strategist partners closely with IT, Application Systems, and Creative teams to plan, implement, and maintain high-quality media across all internal and external channels.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Systems Integration & Technical Architecture
- Maintains and modifies complex systems and/or designs and develops integrated subsystems for the MCS production environment. Guides users in formulating requirements; analyzes resulting user proposals and conducts feasibility studies. Recommends optimum approach, advises on alternatives and on the implications of new or revised multimedia processing systems.
- Manages application software, application infrastructure and/or environments in the assigned field. This includes installation, upgrades and patches, tuning, creating links and interfaces between systems, performance monitoring and troubleshooting. Tests, maintains, and monitors system processes using in-house and third-party tools.
- Serve as the bridge between communications strategies and technical architecture for media and communications systems integration in collegewide platforms such as Workday, Navigate, and PCCTV.
- Configure and test embedded media (videos, banners, tutorials) across digital systems in coordination with IT and Application Systems teams.
- Develop and implement standards for encoding, delivery, and metadata tagging to ensure interoperability, accessibility, and consistent user experience.
- Maintain technical documentation for media workflows, permissions, and digital asset management.
- Lead infrastructure improvements for storage, captioning systems, automation, and media delivery pipelines.
Quality Assurance & Analytics
- Designs, implements, maintains and performs periodic re-evaluation of multimedia infrastructure policies, standards and procedures. Analyzes data storage, usage and growth patterns in order to plan and execute tasks to ensure future database needs will be met.
- Conduct technical QA on all media content across systems to ensure proper playback, compatibility, and accessibility compliance.
- Monitor analytics tracking to ensure performance data is accurate and actionable.
- Establish and enforce technical quality standards, including captioning, encoding, and file naming conventions.
Creative & Production Collaboration
- Partner with the Marketing and Communications Creative Team to ensure video and multimedia content meets system display and playback requirements.
- Provide technical consultation during pre-production and post-production phases to ensure content readiness for all delivery environments.
- Lead and produce approved event and brand activation opportunities in alignment with PCC’s communications strategy.
- Support PCC TV and livestream operations as needed.
Project Management & Documentation
- Manage media system integration projects from planning through delivery, ensuring milestones, budgets, and standards are met.
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including workflows, equipment inventories, and technical standards.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align technology upgrades with organizational goals and infrastructure roadmaps.
- Approves media encoding, metadata, and system compatibility standards.
- Leads planning for infrastructure improvements (storage, captioning, file automation).
- Recommends and implements new technologies for improved media performance and accessibility.
- Manages the specification, purchasing, installation and configuration of LAN and application servers and networking equipment. Manages LAN/WAN network and computer resources efficiently to provide maximum throughput and maintain good system response. Tasks include using LAN software to analyze system performance; conducting research in resolving problems; and verifying resources are being used in a judicious manner.
Training & Support
- Supports end users by supplying training and technical support and/or documentation and creating a user-friendly environment that promotes self-sufficiency. Orients user personnel on new or changed procedures. May provide functional direction to technical staff and/or student employees.
- Mentor multimedia and communications staff in emerging technologies, fostering skill development and technical excellence.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Film/Video Production, Communications, Broadcast Engineering, Media Arts, or a closely related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Four years of progressively responsible experience in multimedia production, systems integration, or A/V engineering.
