Course Description

Covers the identification of disease processes and their treatments in a Catheterization Lab. Prerequisites: VIR 106 and VIR 107 and VIR 122 and VIR 272 or department permission.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Identify treatment options for complex disease processes in cardiology, interventional radiology and neurology.

Course Activities and Design

1.  Understand and recognize, via imaging and course packets/text reading, diseases associated with interventional procedures for the following modalities..

    a.  Cardiology

    b.  Interventional Radiology 

    c.  Neurology 

Outcome Assessment Strategies

1. Recognition of disease via imaging, anatomical descriptions and readings

2. Quizzes associated with each modality containing imaging and text description 

Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)

1.  Diseases and precursors for interventions in all modalities

   a.  Understanding when intervention is necessitated (Intermediate level of understanding)

    *patient symptoms, anatomical changes, physiological changes, quality of life changes, data associated with both options
