Course Description

Reading and discussion of Hispanic people and culture through essays, poetry, short story, novels and theater. Focuses on the Hispanic region, period and genre subtitled in the schedule. Conducted in Spanish. Prerequisites: WR 115, RD 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement test scores. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

  1. Improve skills in reading, analysis and discussion of Hispano-American Literature.
  2. Improve speaking and writing skills
  3. Increase understanding of Hispanic culture and thought through various types of literature

Students will be assessed by any combination of the following:

  1. Active participation / discussion in class
  2. The ability to understand and analyze literary works
  3. Preparation in and out of class
  4. Written analysis of literary works
  5. Formulation of questions and comments for in-class discussion

  1. Read and understand the main idea in various types of literary works
  2. Begin to learn how to analyze and critique literary works (through writing and discussion)
  3. Students should gain an appreciation for the influence literature has had on the evolution of Hispano-American culture
  4. Students become familiar with literary works and authors representative of the eras being studied
  5. Begin to learn how to identify different literary voices
