Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

• Identify methods for music analysis in a variety of contemporary genres.

• Apply a variety of analytical methods to contemporary music using historical, cultural, and technological contexts.

• Examine research methodologies used in musical analysis.

• Demonstrate an understanding of organizational patterns of music and their interaction, and employ this understanding through aural, verbal, and visual analyses.

• Articulate emotional responses to music and identify the various musical parameters that elicit that response at a beginning level.
