Course Description

Introduces models of interpreting and decision making. Discusses the underlying process of interpreting and making ethical decisions in relation to interpreting. Prerequisites: Program admission and department permission.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students will be able to:

  • Describe and compare interpreting process models.

  • Describe current and historical legislation that impact the field of interpreting.

  • Describe common demands and controls seen within the field of interpreting.

  • Make ethical decisions by applying Demand-Control Schema and other models to given scenarios. 

Course Activities and Design

Activities include readings, lectures, student-led discussions, and ethical analysis.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Students will be evaluated through homework assignments, and quizzes.
