Course Description
Improves and strengthens basic intermediate level skills for working with children ages birth-5 in a group setting at work sites. Includes the use of developmentally appropriate methods to support guidance and conflict resolution; schedule and routine planning; fundamental curriculum development; and environmental modification. Prerequisites: ECE 131A, (ECE 122I or ECE 123P), HEC 201 and Department permission, and (WR 115 and RD 115) or IRW 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement. Corequisites: ECE 130B.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Provide appropriate care and education to children from birth through age 5 using an understanding of children’s characteristics and needs.
- Interact with children appropriately and effectively using an understanding of diverse family characteristics.
- Support the development of children using appropriate observation, documentation, and other assessment tools and approaches.
