Course Description

Covers advanced laboratory skills development in dental assisting materials and laboratory equipment. Includes applying knowledge, technology, and skills from dental office externships. Prerequisites: Acceptance in the Dental Assisting program.

Addendum to Course Description

Includes vital tooth bleaching and uses of acrylics in prosthodontics dentistry.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Perform, at an advanced level (entry-level employment), dental material lab duties while utilizing safe methods and demonstrating professionalism.

  2. Identify the materials and procedural steps for various dental procedures and Expanded Function Dental Assisting (EFDA) duties.

  • Explain the properties and characteristics of acrylics as used in dentures
  • Transfer dental materials knowledge and skills to DA 119 Expanded Functions II
  • Fabricate a custom tray used in bleaching vital teeth
