Course Description

Continues to practice structures and vocabulary presented in RUS 150 in a conversational format. Recommended: Enrollment in RUS 150. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

  1. Manages very simple interactions in highly predictable setting, using basic vocabulary and present tense.
  2. Begins to apply language-learning skills.
  3. Recognizes and approaches cultural differences with respect and open-mindedness.

Course Content: Themes, Concepts and Issues:
Include all or most of the following:

  1. Greetings, introductions and leave-takings
  2. Russian name system
  3. Numbers 1-100
  4. Nationality and age
  5. Family members
  6. Professions
  7. Places in the city
  8. Personal interests and activities
  9. Gender system for nouns
  10. Possessive adjectives
  11. Introduction to case: the dative for age
  12. Prepositional case for location
  13. Nominative plural of nouns
  14. Present tense
  15. Accusative case for direct objects


Competencies and Skills:

  1. Manages introductions, greetings, leave taking and exchanges basic
  2. personal information in a culturally appropriate manner
  3. Says numbers and does basic math
  4. Asks for and gives directions using a map
  5. Describes self and others: interests, age and personal attributes
  6. Formulates simple questions and answers
  7. Identifies and names objects
  8. Comprehends slow native speech in a highly controlled/contextualized setting.
  9. Recognizes basic cultural differences
