Course Description

Satisfies the Oregon Real Estate Agency post-license requirement to complete an advanced course related to the practice of real estate prior to their first renewal of their license. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

The instructional goal of Real Estate Advanced Practices post-license course is to broaden the new licensee’s knowledge of the practice of real estate beyond the entry level, with the course emphasis on current issues faces by real estate licensees, including:

1.Business ethics, including the fundamentals of moral judgment; the way in which ethical relationships with clients, between licensees in the same company, with supervising principal brokers, with employees, and with the community are developed and maintained; and conflict resolution.

2.Current events; license law and administrative rules changes from most recent legislation; legislative changes affecting real estate.

3 Review of recent administrative actions issued by the Real Estate Agency.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Students will be assessed by any combination of the following:

1.      Active participation in class

2.      Contextual written tasks (in or outside of class) to assess reading

3.      Oral responses to in class hypotheticals

4.      Request for real life applications of course material

5.      In class, interactive student role-plays

6.      Quizzes and practice

7.      Final comprehensive examination

 Themes, Concepts and Issues

Include all or most of the following:

1.      Theories of ethical decision making

2.      Ethical issues related to:

  1. client and broker
  2. principal broker and employees
  3. between employees
  4. broker and community

3.      Conflict resolution of ethical issues

4.      Impact of the most recent legislative session laws and the licensee

5.      Impact of the most recent administrative rule changes and the licensee

6.      Review of recent disciplinary actions of the Oregon Real Estate licensee
