Course Description

Continues building proficiency in Pickleball. Topics include: technique, terminology, singles, doubles, strategies, and tournament play. Pickleball levels 1-5 criteria will be discussed and possibly given in this class. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Students may bring their own Pickleball paddle
Proper court/gym shoes required

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Identify the equipment, rules and etiquette of pickleball.
  2. Improve basic fundamental skills to a level of 3 or above.
  3. Recognize offensive and defensive strategy.
  4. Demonstrate proper footwork and racquet grips.
  5. Demonstrate basic forehand and backhand strokes.
  6. Increase levels of fitness and coordination.
  7. Identify modified placement positions.
  8. Analyze court awareness with shot selection and placement.

Aspirational Goals

To play Pickleball, both doubles and singles, at a Pickleball rating of 3 or higher.

To enjoy Pickleball as a lifelong recreational activity. 

Course Activities and Design

  1. Forehand

  4. Smashes, forehand and backhand
  5. Drop shots
  6. Spins
  7. Doubles rotation
  8. Angle play

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Methods of Evaluation may include but are not limited to the following:
 

  • Individual and team participation
  • Sportsmanship
  • Critical thinking in competitive game play
  • Demonstration of rules and etiquette of pickleball
  • Participation and demonstration of game fundamentals and strategies
  • Tests on rules
  • Video analysis
