Course Description

Covers technical foundations in video and digital media production. Explores project organization, file management and terminology. Introduces creative digital tools and software for multimedia applications and industry workflow. Explores contemporary equity topics in media. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to: 

  1. Identify common file types and media in typical video and digital media projects. 
  2. Use common tools and industry software supporting video production and digital media.
  3. Create file organization repository for digital assets.
  4. Discuss diversity, equity, and inclusion topics in media. 
  5. Create personal goals and an action plan for studies in Video Production, Motion Graphics, Animation, Game Design or Multimedia. 

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Assessment will be based upon a combination of in-class work, reflections, examinations, and skills demonstrated in assigned projects. Determination of problem-solving skills, and communication skills may also be included.

Academic Plan. With guidance of faculty and program Perkins advisor, every student creates an academic plan for certificate/degree/goal completion. Student plans go to Perkins advisor and are reviewed quarterly thereafter for duration of student participation in the program. 
 

Technical Foundations.

  • Intro to video production and image capture tools
  • Intro to workflow to support still and motion graphics, animation, game design and multimedia tools
  • Intro to typical video and multimedia production software interfaces and functionalities
  • Intro to standard file formats, their differences, benefits and limitations
  • Intro to asset and project management
  • Intro to accessibility in media
