Course Description

Introduces the history of China. Includes political, diplomatic, economic, social, religious, and cultural themes from pre-history to modern times. Audit Available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

? Articulate an understanding of the key events in the history of China and use critical thinking to evaluate historical
changes and their impact on civilization.
? Recognize the diverse contributions of China to World Civilization in order to appreciate and evaluate society.
? Identify culturally?grounded assumptions which have influenced the perceptions and behaviors of and about peoples in China.
? Communicate effectively using historical analysis.
? Connect the past with the present to enhance citizenship skills.

Social Inquiry and Analysis

Students completing an associate degree at Portland Community College will be able to apply methods of inquiry and analysis to examine social contexts and the diversity of human thought and experience.

  • Identify key political, geographical, social, economic and cultural aspects of East Asian civilizations
  • Appraise how civilizations changed over time

  • Evaluate different interpretations of past events and construct your own
  • Recognize and understand the basis for various interpretations and views of historical issues
