Course Description

Covers principles of permaculture for both urban & rural applications and sustainable human settlements. Covers: landscape analysis, including ecological planning & design methods, organic food production and food security, natural soil improvement, integrated animal systems, water harvesting, conservation, and management, and forest gardening, techniques and design strategies. Intensive course combining theory with practical hands on learning. Includes lectures, discussions, hands-on labs, slide shows, field trips and design projects. Students who successfully complete this course will be awarded a Permaculture Design Certificate through the Cascadia Permaculture Institute. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

- practice permaculture as a Permaculture Design Certificate holder as granted by the Cascadia Permaculture Institute

- discuss the basic history and fundamental principles of Permaculture

- identify and evaluate Permaculture landscapes and features

- suggest Permaculture solutions to common landscape design challenges

- design with Permaculture principles

- draw/diagram and construct basic Permaculture features
