Course Description

Provides an opportunity for hands-on skill development in planned, supervised and regularly evaluated experiences in early education and family studies settings. Experiences and placement sites vary and are developed to meet individual goals. Department permission required. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Students earn credit for learning from practical experience at a work site related to early education and families career.

Participation in the course may benefit students who are: 

A. Enrolled in General Studies

B. In the high school completion program.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to: 

  • Work productively on their chosen career objectives.  
  • Apply classroom skills to field site.
  • Define skills and competencies developed on-the-job for use in job search and career planning in the field. 
  • Follow workplace policies and practices. 
  •  Meet mutually agreed‐upon goals and learning objectives with the instructor and employer or supervisor in a early education and family studies setting.

Aspirational Goals

  • Continue to explore career opportunities utilizing workplace contacts.

Course Activities and Design

∙ Meet mutually agreed‐upon goals and learning objectives with the instructor and employer or supervisor.Students will demonstrate learning outcomes by completing these tasks:

A.  Write learning objectives and identify related activities at the beginning of the place with guidance from the work site supervisor and EFFS faculty.

B.  Consistently work on the agreed upon hours and engage in the identified activities.

C.  Develop and self-reflection on learning in the work experienced through written report, presentation, portfolio or other  means appropriate to career field as approved by instructor. 

D.  Participate in an end of the term evaluation process.  Work site supervisor will complete an evaluation of the student's performance and meet with the student and EFFS faculty.
