General education philosophy statement

Health Studies General Education courses encourage critical thinking about health, systems that influence individual and community health, and strategies that promote individual, community, and environmental health and well-being.

Socially constructed concepts of race and masculinity affect behavioral and social conditions that promote health in some men while simultaneously hinder the health in others. Identity, diversity, and privilege are explicit aspects essential to understand health differences. When credible data and research are used, the myths and realities of these constructs can be better understood for the improved health of all men.
