Course Description

Examines the personal, behavioral, social, and cultural factors impacting the health and wellness of men. Provides an overview of the health differences between various communities of men and encourages exploration of causes. Explores health and wellness promotion strategies. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Identify significant men's health issues in the United States.
  2. Discuss how the construct of masculinity promotes and hinders men’s health.
  3. Use health models to examine the behavioral, social, and cultural factors that contribute to or inhibit men's health.
  4. Analyze how social determinants influence the health of individual men and communities of men.
  5. Use information from credible research and primary data sources to explore men's health differences.

Students completing an associate degree at Portland Community College will be able to apply methods of inquiry and analysis to examine social contexts and the diversity of human thought and experience.
