Course Description

Covers essential skills for internship site procurement. Focuses on company research, interviewing techniques, and resume and cover letter generation.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  • Apply job search skills including research, resume and cover letter development, and interview techniques to acquire an internship and employment in the industry.

Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)

  1. Conduct research and interviews at 3 different sites in the exercise, fitness, wellness industry
  2. Use the FIND model to determine best internship site choice
  3. Prepare an internship application, resume, cover letter, and followup/thank you letter.
  4. Exhibit generate internship‐specific learning objectives and activities
  5. Investigate special project opportunities
  6. Professional business writing (resumes, cover letters, etc.)
  7. Pre‐interview prep and interviewing skills
  8. Research self, industry, business
  9. Professionalism
  10. Decision making
