Course Description

Covers prevention and management of acute and chronic injuries in a fitness setting. Explores alternative exercises for existing injuries. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Describe common exercise-related injuries, including structural and physiological causes, risk factors, and prevalence.
  2. Apply injury prevention and management guidelines to exercise recommendations for target client populations.

Course Content (Themes, Concepts, Issues and Skills)

  1. Identify risk Factors for Injury

  2. Implement basic Prevention and Management Strategies

  3. Research and describe common acute, overuse/chronic injuries related to the human body.

  4. Investigate and report on the psychology of Injuries and the rehabilitation process.

  5. Modify and implement basic fitness programming to prevent & manage mild-moderate Injuries

  6. Discern when an injury is outside your scope of practice and who you should refer the client to.
