Course Description

Explores careers in the exercise science, fitness, wellness, and health industries. Presents the concepts and skills for effective movement instruction. Investigates the role of an exercise science professional in various career settings. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Explore and research the industry trends, job market, scope of practice, and skills required in various exercise science and wellness professions.
  2. Identify and reflect on one's own skills and their application to professional work in the exercise science industry.
  3. Apply effective teaching and learning concepts to movement instruction.
  4. Outline a potential educational and career path toward a specific occupation.

  1. Outline the elements of employability.

  2. Compare licensing and certification in the exercise science industry.

  6. Identify one’s skills and how one’s skills apply to the exercise science industry.

  7. Describe basic concepts related to motor learning and teaching motor skills.

  8. Create a lesson plan.

  9. Apply teaching strategies in movement.
