Course Description

Covers refrigeration loads, equipment selection, piping and installation procedures. Focuses on calculating loads for walk-in units, sizing condensing units, and evaporative coils. Includes use of catalogs to locate and properly select components, for design and troubleshooting new and existing applications. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

This course is designed to increase the installer/serviceman's knowledge of compressors and system components. The course deals specifically with each component and its application in a HVAC/Refrigeration system. This course continues to develop the serviceman's ability to install, service, repair, and replace specific system components relative to system application.

Intended Outcomes for the course

  • Illustrate compressor design and application relative to system capacity.
  • Utilize the manufacturers specification sheets to properly balance equipment selection.
  • Explain why new design criteria is being applied and how efficiencies are attained.
  • Illustrate the may areas of observational checks that must be administered to perform maintenance programs.
  • Illustrate component effect on the system performance and operation.
  • Discuss data with regard to application, selection, and servicing expansion valves.
  • Give an overview of the system diagnosis when operating is sufficient or verification of performance is desired.
  • Illustrate the reasons for accurate system evacuation. Also to demonstrate tools for measuring accuracy.
  • Illustrate step-by-step procedure to properly clean system using minimum time and labor for maximum effectiveness.
  • Stress safety control circuits. Also to describe cycling control importance.

The class is conducted in a lecture-discussion focusing on the installation, selection, and operation of system components.
