Course Description

Focuses on code articles related to motor controlled systems, starters, controllers and transformers. Safety also covered. This class can be used towards Continuing Education Units for Oregon State electrical licensing purposes. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Course can also be used to meet the Washington State licensing renewal requirements through the WA/OR reciprocity agreement. A Course Completion Certificate for continuing education will be issued upon request to any participant who successfully passes the course. Attendance rosters will be sent to the state for certification purposes. Please note that the electrician's license renewal fee is not included in the cost of the course. A current National Electric Code Book is required.

Intended Outcomes for the course

  • Demonstrate knowledge of electrical motor theory
  • Demonstrate knowledge of common electrical symbols, connections and schematic diagrams.
  • Wire basic motor control circuits

Course Activities and Design

The format is both lecture and lab work. Lecture will emphasize motor theory and schematics. Labs will emphasize wiring control circuits and the use of test equipment.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Procedures will be discussed at the first class session and the instructor's grading policy will be referenced on the class syllabus.
